Sheffield Wednesday boss Garry Monk will need to shake up his squad if he is to see many additions during the transfer window.
The Owls have been linked to a vast array of striking options this month, including the likes of Rhian Brewster (now at Swansea City), Eddie Nketiah, Jonson Clarke-Harris, Josh Sims and Lyle Taylor, to name but a few.
It remains to be seen how accurate some of those reports are, but it’s quite clear that attackers are the focus. Monk has revealed that any incoming is also likely to be from the loan market too.
In order for any new signings, the 40-year-old may have to offload some players, especially as they have as many as five players upfront alone.
One of which is Fernando Forestieri, who has endured a tumultuous time at Hillsborough this season.
It began with a six-game suspension for alleged racial abuse before a string of injuries have seen him dip in and out of the side.
Under Monk, the 29-year-old has started just one of six matches, and that was actually his last appearance for the club as the Owls defeated Charlton Athletic 3-1.
He has not been named in a matchday squad since.
The Italian’s prolific first two seasons in the blue and white stripes seem a long time ago now, he finished as the club’s top goalscorer in back-to-back playoff campaigns, but since then, he has managed only 12 goals in three seasons via Transfermarkt.

Owls coach and former caretaker boss Lee Bullen has described him as “X-Factor” as well as being a “Premier League player” back in August but his numbers this season far from reflect that.
Although, maybe it can be used as a tool to help get rid.
Forestieri is probably the fifth choice striker and fourth choice winger now, if they can get absolutely anything for him this month, then they should look to offload him.
While in other news, Wednesday’s pursuit of this 7-goal target has just been made easier…
