According to The Mirror, Manchester United have identified Edwin van der Sar as a possible candidate to become the club’s new director of football.
Van der Sar turned out for United as a player between 2005 and 2011 – making 266 appearances for the English giants in all competitions.
The 48-year-old is now chief executive of Ajax, where his work has helped the Dutch giants become a force in European football once again.
According to The Mirror, United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has been impressed by the former goalkeeper’s work in the Netherlands, and the Red Devils are keen to bring him back to Old Trafford as a staff member.
As expected, a number of United fans have been on social media offering their views on the report, and it would be fair to say that the majority are in favour of the Dutchman returning to the club in what is a very important role.
