Greenwood scores standout goal for GetafeLa Liga appear to ignore Man Utd star's goalStrike helps secure 2-1 win for GetafeWHAT HAPPENED?
Greenwood scored his fourth goal of the season for Getafe on Saturday in a 2-1 victory over Almeria. The Manchester United loanee equalised in the 33rd minute with arguably the best goal of his career so far. Greenwood picked up possession out wide on the right, cut back inside onto his left foot and fired a powerful strike across goal and into the top corner. Yet viewers were unable to see footage of the goal, with La Liga deciding against sharing a video of the strike online. Indeed, Spain's top flight appeared to completely ignore Greenwood's contribution on social media, with the official X accounts – in both English and Spanish – covering details of the match as it took place but making no mention of the fact the 22-year-old had even scored.

Greenwood is attempting to resurrect his career in La Liga following his exit from Manchester United after a lengthy international investigation following his arrest on suspicion of attempted rape, assault and coercive control. The charges were later dropped and Greenwood moved to Getafe on a season-long loan. The Red Devils have said they do not expect Greenwood to play for the club again, and there has been speculation Getafe could make his loan deal permanent. Greenwood's transfer has been met with opposition in La Liga. Fans were heard chanting "die Greenwood die" on his Getafe debut back in September. Sportswear giants Nike have also moved to make it clear the forward does not have a sponsorship deal in place after he showed off his footwear collection online.
WHAT HAVE GETAFE SAID?
Getafe have been happy to share clips of Greenwood on social media. The Spanish side showed off their "starboy" before kick-off at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Saturday.
The club also showed Greenwood go close with a chance that was very similar to the one he actually scored from later in the half.
WHAT NEXT FOR GREENWOOD?
Getafe and Greenwood are due to return to action in La Liga on Friday away at Las Palmas. As for what might follow with United, with it appearing unlikely he'll continue his career at Old Trafford he'll either be sold in the summer of 2024, be sent out on loan again before leaving on a free transfer when his current deal expires in 2025 or will be mutually allowed to terminate his contract and exit the club before that point.
