Jamie Gittens is set to become a Chelsea player, after an agreement was reached with Borussia Dortmund for the winger.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that a deal has been made for the 20-year-old to arrive at Stamford Bridge on a seven-year contract following a medical on Saturday evening. He also clarified that the fee is believed to be around £55 million ($75m) after a £42m offer by the Blues was rejected prior to the Club World Cup.

Chelsea wanted to sign Gittens ahead of this summer's tournament in the United States, but were forced to wait before finally agreeing a deal for one of their top targets. With Jadon Sancho gone and Joao Felix expected to follow him out of the door, Enzo Maresca will be glad to have former Manchester City player Gittens secured ahead of the new season.

Having made the plunge to join Dortmund in 2020, Gittens has registered 17 goals in 107 appearances for Niko Kovac's side, including 76 Bundesliga appearances. The England youth international has yet to make his debut for the senior side, but will hope to force his way into consideration for Thomas Tuchel's 2026 World Cup squad on his arrival in West London.

Following his medical, Gittens will join up with his new Chelsea team-mates after their participation in the Club World Cup. The Blues face Benfica in their last 16 tie and will aim to go all the way in the tournament. Next season Maresca's side will have high hopes of competing for domestic and European honours, and Gittens could be a key part of their project moving forward.
